NEW
PROGRAM BEING DEVELOPED!
" TAP "
Transportation Assistance Program
TAP (
Transportation assistance Program) is another way that Care Of Poor People,
can bring together the whole community together to give those down and out a
hand up in our community, by providing those with minor car problems, the
means of being able to address their transportation problems. Please
visit our PROGRAMS page to read more about this new program!
It is
a Win-Win Situation !!
Not
only will the TAP program help those that are under considerable
pressure with whether they’ll be able to get back and forth to their
employment, but it will also assure them at least they’ll have the car to
live in if heaven forbid they loose their housing and they will have
transportation to find help. For those in the community that
volunteer their time and resources with the "TAP" program, it will not only
be a hands on opportunity to help those hurting , but you’ll have the
knowledge that you making a huge difference in the lives of others just by
sharing your god given natural talents.
Here are a few
questions I expect to have asked about the program and my answers!
What do you mean by minor car problems ?
Starters, u joints, tires, brakes, basically
anything you can fix in a couple of hours per car.
Where will you get your clients and how will you assess their needs? COPP
will work with case managers of other agencies in the Kansas City Metro Area
to recruit those in need and they can refer clients’ to us, with special
attention given to those with families and employment problems.
How will you get funding for the "TAP" program ?
COPP Inc, will set up a special account for TAP with moneys
donations for the TAP program only being used for that program. In addition
we will have fund-raisers especially for this program, along with having a
grant writer applying for state and federal funds grants.
How do you expect to get the program started?
I feel the first place
to get the program started is making people aware that the program is being
instituted , and to make the community aware that there is a way they can
personally get involved in helping those down and out make a change in their
life. There is an old saying if you build it they will come, therefore I
personally believe that the first place to start the program is with the
media, spreading the word about what were trying to do and going from there.
You never know what opportunities will present their selves once you make
people aware of the opportunities. In addition, I plan on
speaking to many churches and community groups in the metro area to
raise awareness and funds and volunteers for the program.
What’s needed to make the program work?
The first thing we need is a space to fix
automobiles. We need to rent or get a garage with a lift, donated
hopefully with tools, to let us use their space one day a week. We
also need a tow truck operator to donate their services for one day a week
to help us move cars that are un-drivable. We need a steady source of
parts donated to the program, such as used parts from local auto
dismantlers , and new parts from automobile suppliers either donated or sold
to us at a discounted rate, with a tax write off for those that donates the
parts. We need Mechanics’ professional or
shade tree mechanics’ with tools to donate their time fixing cars for the
poor and homeless of our community.
It
will take the whole community coming together to make this program
work, and figuring out the logistics of making the program work it will
involve a lot of hours of strategic planning, to make the program work, If
you would like to get yourself, your group, church, or employer for that
matter involved in this program please contact Richard G Tripp at
copp777@prodigy.net
or give him a call at 816-483-4081 to become a member of the planning
committee for Care Of Poor People’s TAP program.
As
soon as we have a sufficient amount of committee members (21) to proceed we
will have our first meeting. Those wanting to be involved will be notified
by phone an email about the time and location of the first meeting
